Mobile Suit Gundam is a 43 episode series made in 1979. It kicked off the now-famous Gundam franchise, and is regarded as one of the most famous mecha anime of all time. If you don't want to commit to 43 episodes, there is also a trilogy of compilation movies available on Netflix.
